Security and Data Protection
Last updated: 29 September 2026
Our role
When you use our services to store or process personal information, you remain in control of it and we process it only on your instructions. Our Data Processing Terms, which form part of every customer agreement, set out those obligations, in line with Botswana's Data Protection Act, 2024.
How we protect your data
- Two-step login on every customer and staff account.
- Encryption of data in transit and of backups.
- Staff access only where needed for a task, with every staff action on your account logged and visible to you in the Cloud Console.
- Security updates and vulnerability checks on our servers.
- Monitoring with alerts, and a public service status page.
- Nightly backups of our systems, with restores tested every month.
- An independent security test of our platform before launch and every year after.
If something goes wrong
If a security incident affects personal information we process for you, we will tell you without undue delay and give you the details you need to meet your own duty to notify the Information and Data Protection Commission within 72 hours.
Where your data is kept
Our platform currently runs on servers in the United States, provided by Contabo. We are moving it to a data centre in Botswana. Services from other providers, such as Microsoft and Google, run where each service page states. Our Local data copy service, which keeps a copy of your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace data in Botswana, will be available once that move is complete.
Providers we use
A list of the providers that may process your data as part of our services is on our Service Providers page. We will give you notice before adding a new one.
Contact
Security or data protection questions: legal@fourthgeneration.technology. Report a security issue: support@fourthgeneration.technology, marked "Security".
Product notice: the assistant
The assistant on the Support page uses an AI service run by Anthropic, hosted outside Botswana. When you ask it something, it is sent your question, the conversation so far, and only the account details it looks up to answer, such as an invoice's lines or a list of your services. It is never sent passwords, sign-in codes, card numbers, our bank details or any keys.
Every lookup it makes is written to your organisation's activity log on the Security page. It can't change anything on your account unless you press Confirm. If you'd rather it didn't see your data, ask our team instead: a person answers every ticket.
